Weerama Festival
March 14, 2010

Supporting the City of Wyndham and its annual Weerama Festival, Nelson Bros hosted the Afternoon Melodies Concert at the Wyndham Cultural Centre. Performing were singer Timothy McCallum and ballerina Danielle Scott.

Timothy McCallum is one of Geelong’ s most celebrated and loved local performers.  In 1999, Tim was one of 18 talented performers who were selected from a pool of over a thousand applicants into the Musical Theatre course at Perth’ s prestigious Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts.  However, only days before he was to commence his music theatre course, a swimming accident left him a quadriplegic.
Since then, his resilient character and extraordinary spirit have touched the hearts of the arts community, as they have watched him rehabilitate and return to the stage to continue his performing career.  Tim has gone on to do guest appearances at the Melbourne Cup Eve Ball, Carols by Candlelight, the Crown Showroom with Peter Sullivan and the Starlight Orchestra and a performance before the Prime Minister at his “ Centenary of Federation” dinner.
Tim has also devised his own one man cabaret, “ A Road Less Travelled” and produced and performed in a highly acclaimed Mothers Day Concert with the Australian Army Band which raised $20,000 for Assistance Dogs Australia.  Tim’ s biggest fan at these performances is Roxy, his own assistance dog, who contributes immeasurably to his personal life and his independence.  Tim’ s achievements have not gone unnoticed.  He was awarded the Centenary Medal by the Governor-General for his outstanding service to the entertainment industry.  More recently, he has received an Australian Humanitarian Award by the Altruism Foundation of Australia and a Tattersall’ s Award for Enterprise and Achievement.  Tim’ s life story was featured on “ Australian Story” on ABC TV in November 2006.

Danielle Scott is 14 years of age and a Hoppers Crossing resident.  She was orphaned aged 3 and has lived with her grandparents since then.  She attended St. James the Apostle primary school and then commenced training at the Ballet Theatre of Victoria, whilst undertaking distance education.
Danielle is currently in Year 9 at the Victorian College of the Arts and is a full time student at the Australian Ballet School.
Because of her recognised dancing ability, Danielle has won a number of scholarships.  She has won the “ Wyndham Encouragement Award” every successive year since she was 7 years of age.
Since commencing ballet at the age of 5 years, Danielle has competed in competitions in Geelong, Ballarat, Springvale and other parts of Victoria and has been successful on all occasions.
Her dream is to be ultimately accepted into the Australian Ballet Company and perform internationally.  She hopes to do this in 3 to 4 years time.
Danielle is one of Wyndham’ s rising stars and we wish her every success with her future ballet career.
