Funeral Expenses

Service Fees are Nelson Bros fees to cover the various tasks and activities undertaken by our professional staff to plan, organise and carry out the funeral. It includes the time, expertise, use of our facilities and equipment necessary to conduct the service.

Products are the various elements selected for each funeral, such as the casket or coffin, cremation urns, memorial books, Video Tributes, or refreshments at our funeral home.

Disbursements are Third Party Fees which we pay on your behalf. A funeral will typically include a range of disbursements, including fees for the cemetery or crematorium, death certificate, officiant, venue, printing & stationery, floral tributes, and newspaper notices.

Understanding Funeral Expenses

When comparing funeral expenses between funeral directors, you should ensure that there are no hidden surprises. The quality and level of service provided by funeral directors can vary greatly.

Tax – all fees on our account are required by law to include GST. Every fee quoted to you by Nelson Bros includes GST. Be aware that some funeral directors add GST to their listed fees. Some third party fees (e.g. new graves, church fees) may be exempt from GST. In these circumstances, you are welcome to pay them direct for the saving.

Inclusive – Nelson Bros service fees include all the services typically associated with a funeral – including the collection of the deceased into our care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, full mortuary care, hearse and courtesy coach for the family, services at a time to suit you (including outside normal business hours, weekends and public holidays), and the required number of professional staff, vehicles and equipment to carry out the funeral.
